Oliver the Shichon

Oliver the Shichon

My sweet boy Oliver - his daddy, is a purebred Bichon Frise and his mommy a purebred Shih Tzu.

He is the first generation, which is the ONLY way to have an exact 50/50 mix. He is super affectionate and loving, quite submissive and timid, and very smart.

He is usually very quiet but gets occasional bursts of energy where he does laps around the house, then flops down and sleeps for awhile.

I have had many kinds of dogs, but Oliver is the sweetest, most loving little guy I have ever owned.

He is healthy, but we did have a scary episode when he fainted once, the emergency vet said it was a vagal response. He had just vomited up some grass he ate outside and fell over. After he had got up, he was perfectly fine, but we went to be checked out anyways.

He also has two teeth that have not come in. He is now eight months old. His vet said they could either be impacted, and if so she would just have to make a small cut to allow them to emerge, or she said it is more likely those two teeth just didn't develop, she has seen that more often than impaction. She just said we'd watch him for any pain, or abscess since dogs must be anesthetized for dental X-rays.

Oh, and he gets car sick. I've tried to get him used to it by taking with me where I can. The vet has given us some medicine called Cerenia, and it works fine.

I'm hoping that as I take him more places and around more people he will get a little more used to people and not be so timid. He has no timidity around other dogs; he loves them...the bigger, the better!

Oliver
by: Amy

After I posted last time I looked at the breeder's websites, OMG it makes me want another one already, but I didn't realize that they both have available shichons. Stonebrook used to have a waiting list, which I thought was funny because, like I said before, the two breeders are a grandmother and her granddaughters - and they use a lot of the same sires and dams, so in some way or another, most of those puppies are probably related too. I am so excited for you. Oh, and Sleepy Hollow charges $100 less, or at least used to. Right now Stonebrook is up to $900 (plus tax) which makes it something around $963 I believe, but they are SO worth every penny. Please post an update and let me know how your search goes!! P.S. - Sleepy Hollow also has "Malshi's" which are shih Tzu and maltese, and they look pretty much like the shichons but I have read that Maltese are notoriously hard to house train. But they are darn cute.

HI Amy,
Thanks for writing back! I am definitely interest in a small dog mix. Your baby Oliver is the cutest most adorable puppy I have ever seen!

I will contact both of the breeders you suggest. I live in Greensboro, NC and I'm not sure where Abbeville is at this time but the GPS will get me there soon!

Blessings,

Nancy

Shichon puppies
by: Amy

Hi Nancy,
I got an email that you had posted a reply to my post about my baby, Oliver. I am so sorry about your other baby, it is never easy to lose one. There are two breeders of Shichons in Abbeville, SC. I'm not sure where you are in NC, but they are both wonderful breeders, they are ShichonsofStonebrook.com and Sleepyhollowpuppies.com . The first one has a waiting list, the second one doesn't and has a few other Bichon mixes as well. Its funny too because the two breeders are in the same family and use the same sires and dams for their puppies. I got my Oliver at Sleepy Hollow. She has one Shichon left from her latest litter. They are both very very highly recommended. I adore my baby, and a girl I work with just got her baby from Stonebrook last week. They are wonderful dogs. I hope Abbeville isn't too far for you to travel, it would really be worth the trip, I promise. Plus it is a beautiful little town with lots of history. Let me know how your search turns out. I will tell you, if you do contact Sleepyhollow puppies, you would do better to call her (Nancy Overholt) than to email. She is an older lady, and she doesn't answer emails very quickly. Good luck!!!

Bichon Mises
by: Nancy

Hello. I am looking for the right forever companion, My Boston Terrier, Cooper, passed 2 years ago and I am finally ready for a new best buddy.I am retired and would like a Bichon mix. My sister has a Bichon and she is wonderful! A bit of a couch potato but that's okay with me. I am open to adopting an older dog who has been well loved or a puppy. If anyone knows some places here in North Carolina that breed these dogs, could you send me a link?

Thanks!

Nancy Scott
