Choosing a Boy Puppy Name

  • Choose an unique name unlike other family members or pets.
  • Dogs often hear the first syllable of their name so try choosing a unique beginning sound for a name.
  • Use the dog's name frequently.
  • If you are getting a puppy from a breeder, ask her to call the puppy by the name you selected.
  • Choose a name you feel comfortable shouting aloud.

Dogs tend to learn their names, but will only pay attention to the first syllable.  If you ever wondered why we only use one syllable words when training, such as "sit" or "stay" it is for this reason.

Remember the common commands that you will be teaching your puppy (sit, stay, down, come, wait, leave it, watch me, etc. and try to steer clear of words sounding like these words.
